# AI internal linking plugin that builds up your pillar

The APC Editorial **Link Building - AI** add-on reads the published articles of your plan and adds internal links between them, on phrases already in the text. Every article gets the link to its block's pillar, and the saved text never changes.

[Download free for 30 days](https://jode.io/#community)[See the step by step](https://jode.io/docs/seo-and-performance/#link-building)

- Anchors from the text itself

- A pillar link in every article

- Turn it off, the links leave at once

In short

Link Building - AI creates **internal links between the published articles** of the same editorial plan. The AI looks, in each article's text, for phrases that already talk about another article of the plan and turns them into links, and every article gets the **link to its block's pillar**.

The links go into the page when it is shown. The article's saved text is never rewritten, and turning the add-on off takes every link off the site at once, without losing the record of any of them.

**Links**

Published articles of the same plan

**Anchor**

A phrase already in the text, 2 to 10 words

**Pillar**

Every article points to its block's pillar

**How many**

No minimum or maximum: relevance decides

**New article**

The plan's other articles are read again to point to it

**Cost**

Internal linking

## The links that tie your content together.

An internal link takes the reader from one article on your site to another. It is simple, and it is also how Google discovers your pages and understands what each one is about.

According to Google's link best practices, links are used to find new pages and to understand how relevant each one is. The link text, the **anchor**, tells the reader and Google what is on the other side. That is why an anchor like “deadline to claim constructive dismissal” says far more than a “click here”.

In an editorial plan organized in blocks, each block has a **pillar**, the broadest article, and **satellites**, which go deeper into each part. Internal links show that structure: satellites point to the pillar, the pillar points to the satellites, and neighbours mention each other when one subject touches another. An article no other article links to, the so-called orphan page, is harder to find, for readers and for Google.

| Link | What it is for | In Link Building - AI |
| --- | --- | --- |

| Satellite → pillar | Shows the satellite is part of a bigger subject and sends authority to the pillar. | Guaranteed in every article, on a phrase of the text that names the pillar. |

| Pillar → satellite | Takes readers who came for the broad subject to the detail. | Added when the satellite is published and the pillar is read again. |

| Satellite → satellite | Connects neighbouring subjects of the same block. | When the AI finds a phrase that talks about the neighbour. |

| Mention of another block | Answers right away the question the text raises. | When the phrase really names the plan's other article. |

Links stay inside the same editorial plan and only point to published articles.

The anchor

## A good anchor says where it goes.

Google recommends anchors that are descriptive, concise and tied to the subject of the destination page. Link Building - AI follows the same line, with rules that apply to every link it adds:

- **The phrase is already in the text.** The AI writes no new word in the article: it picks a passage that already exists.

- **2 to 10 words.** Short enough to be a link, long enough to name the subject.

- **The most descriptive one.** With no good phrase for the destination, the link is left out instead of going live with a weak anchor.

- **Outside headings and other links.** And at most 1 link to the same destination in each article.

What it does

## A page to look after the links of the plan.

In the + Add-ons/Tools menu, the Link Building - AI page shows how many links the plan has, which article points to which and who still gets none.

### Links by relevance

The AI scores how relevant each pair of articles is. A weak pair is kept as Skipped and is not paid for again on the next pass.

### The pillar, guaranteed

Every article points to its block's pillar, with no AI cost. If no phrase names the pillar, the row shows as No anchor, with the reason.

### New article, links back

When an article is published, it gets its own links, and the plan's other published articles are read again so they can point to it.

### Orphans in sight

The Orphans (no links yet) counter shows who nobody links to, and Re-scan orphans looks for links just for them.

### Article by article

Each article shows, under Outbound, the links it makes and, under Inbound, the ones it gets. A link you don't want goes away with Undo and comes back with Restore.

### Each plan's model

Under AI model, in the page's filter row, you choose the plan's model. A fast, low-cost model is enough: it reads the articles, it doesn't write them.

No risk

## Your text stays intact and nothing is lost.

The links live outside the saved text and go into the page when it is shown. That is why you can turn them on, off and change them without worry:

- **Turned the add-on off?** The links leave the site at once. The record stays stored and comes back when you turn it on again.

- **A new pass failed?** The links that already existed stay, and the page lists the articles that weren't checked.

- **An article's address changed?** The links point to the new one, and the cache of the pages that link to it is cleared.

- **The destination went offline?** The link leaves the page with it. No link points to an article that isn't published.

- **You removed a link?** It doesn't come back by itself on a new pass. The decision is yours.

Step by step

## AI internal links in 4 steps.

After the first run, the add-on works on its own: every published article gets its links without you asking.

### Turn the add-on on

In Global Settings › Add-ons/Tools, turn on Link Building - AI and save. With the site's first PRO subscription, it turns on by itself.

### Open the add-on's page

In the + Add-ons/Tools menu, open Link Building - AI and choose the Project and the Editorial plan.

### Choose the model

In the same row, under AI model, choose the model and save. The pass uses your Anthropic key.

### Scan the plan

Click Re-scan this plan. The pass runs in the background, and you can leave the page.

Want to see each screen? The [step by step in the docs](https://jode.io/docs/seo-and-performance/#link-building) shows Link Building - AI and Native side by side.

AI or Native

## Two ways to link. Use one.

APC Editorial has 2 internal linking add-ons. Both look after the same plan, each in its own way.

| | Link Building - AI | [Link Building - Native](https://jode.io/addons-tools/topic-cluster-internal-links/) |
| --- | --- | --- |

| Where the link comes from | The phrases the AI finds in the text, the links the writer proposed and the pillar link | Only the links the writer proposed while writing |

| Pillar link | Guaranteed | When the writer marked it |

| Uses AI | On every article pass | Only on Re-check, to settle ties |

| Best for | Those who want more links, including the mentions the writer didn't mark | Those who want only the links the plan foresaw, with no AI cost |

**With both on, no link is repeated:** when both point to the same article, the Native one wins and the AI steps aside. But the numbers of the 2 pages get mixed. For clean numbers, keep only one on.

FAQ

## Questions about AI internal linking.

### What is internal linking?

It is linking the pages of your own site to each other. Internal links guide readers to the next subject and help Google find the pages and understand what each one is about. In a plan with pillars and satellites, they show which article is the central one for each subject.

### Does the AI write new sentences in my article to place the link?

No. The anchor is always a 2 to 10 word phrase that is already in the text. If the article has no good phrase for that destination, the link is left out. And the article's saved text is never rewritten: the links only go in when the page is shown.

### How many internal links should an article have?

There is no right number, and the add-on has no minimum or maximum. Relevance decides: a link goes in when the AI considers it relevant and the text has a descriptive phrase for it. Weak pairs are kept as Skipped.

### What happens when I publish a new article?

It gets its outbound links, and the plan's other published articles are read again so they can point to it. That is how the pillar starts linking to a new satellite. The pillar link is rebuilt with no AI cost.

### If I change an article's address, do the links break?

No. The links point to the new address in every article, and the cache of the pages that link to it is cleared. If the destination article goes offline, the link leaves the page with it.

### How much does it cost to use AI for the links?

Each pass uses your Anthropic key, with the model you chose for the plan, and the amount goes straight to your account. It shows in the [AI Cost History](https://jode.io/addons-tools/ai-cost-tracking/) as Internal linking. Reading again is free for pairs already checked, and the pillar link uses no AI.

### Can I use it together with Link Building - Native?

You can, and no link is repeated: the Native one wins. But the numbers of the 2 pages get mixed. If you want only the links the writer foresaw, with no AI cost, use [Link Building - Native](https://jode.io/addons-tools/topic-cluster-internal-links/). If you also want the mentions the writer didn't mark, use AI.

### Does turning the add-on off delete the links?

It doesn't delete them. The links leave the site at once, because they were never in the saved text, and the record of each one stays stored. Turn it back on and they return as they were. To clear links written into your posts' text, use [Remove Internal Links](https://jode.io/addons-tools/remove-internal-links/).
