One click on the thumbnail opens the Media Library to change the image, and a post with no image shows the Set image button. It comes on and works on its own: you don't need to generate articles and it uses no AI. In WordPress, the **featured image** is the image that represents the post. Your theme uses it in blog cards, in related posts and, in many themes, at the top of the article. SEO plugins such as Yoast SEO and Rank Math usually use it as the image shown when the link is shared on social networks and messaging apps too. The problem: the WordPress Posts list doesn't show these images. To know whether a post has an image, or which one, you have to open the post. With dozens of articles, it is easy to publish something with no image or the wrong one and only notice later, when the blog card shows up empty. - **Blog cards and related posts**, in most themes. - **The top of the article**, in many themes. - **The shared link's preview**, through your SEO plugin. What it does ## See and change the image right in the list. A column in your post lists and a shortcut in the Media Library, with no new tab to set up. ### The APC Thumb column It shows up right after the checkbox, with a thumbnail of each listed post's featured image. ### Large image on hover Hover over the thumbnail and the image shows up large, in the middle of the screen. The large image is only loaded at that moment. ### Change it without opening the post Click the thumbnail and pick another image in the Media Library, without leaving the list. The change takes effect at once. ### Spot the posts with no image A post with no featured image shows the Set image button instead of a thumbnail. Just scroll the list to find and fill in the missing ones. ### See the full file APC - View image, in the post's row actions and in the classic editor's Featured image box, opens the image in a new tab. ### In the Media Library too In the Media Library, in list view, hovering over an image's thumbnail also shows the image large, without opening anything. Quick and safe ## Everyone changes only what they may. The column follows WordPress's own rules, and the change touches nothing but the featured image: - **Whoever may edit the post and use the Media Library** changes the image from the list. Anyone else sees the same thumbnail, with nothing to click. - **The post's text doesn't change:** the change never opens the post, only the featured image is updated. - **Post already live?** The plugin clears its page cache, so the new image shows up on the site. - **You choose the post types:** in Show on these post types:, right below the tool's switch. Posts and Pages come checked. Step by step ## The column in your list in 3 steps. The tool comes on, for Posts and Pages. Only adjust it if you want other post types. ### Check the tool With APC Editorial installed and your jode.io account connected, check in Global Settings › Add-ons/Tools that Thumbnail in post types is on. ### Choose the post types Right below the switch, in Show on these post types:, tick where the column should show up and click Save. ### Use it in the list Open Posts or Pages: the APC Thumb column shows up after the checkbox. WordPress has no such column. With APC Editorial, the Thumbnail in post types tool comes on: open Posts and the APC Thumb column shows each post's featured image. ### Can I change the featured image without opening the post? Yes. Click the thumbnail, pick another image in the Media Library and you're done. The post's text doesn't change, and a live post gets its page cache cleared so the new image shows up. ### Does it work on pages and custom post types? Yes. The column can show on every post type that takes a featured image. Choose them in Show on these post types:, in the Add-ons/Tools card. Posts and Pages come checked. ### How do I find the posts with no featured image? In the APC Thumb column, a post with no image shows the Set image button instead of a thumbnail. Just scroll the list and fill them in. ### Does the column slow down the posts list? The thumbnail uses a small size of the image, and the large image is only loaded when you hover over it. A long list never downloads every large image at once. ### Can everyone change the image from the list? No. Only someone who may edit that post and use the Media Library can change the image. Anyone else sees the thumbnail, with no button to click. ### The list's thumbnails look cropped or are missing. Now what? After a theme change, older images may lack the sizes your site uses. [Regenerate Thumbnails](https://jode.io/addons-tools/regenerate-thumbnails/) rebuilds those sizes from the original. ### Does it need an AI key or a subscription? No. The column is Free forever and uses no AI. You only need to sign in with your jode.io account, which is free. Only generating the image with AI, in the same column, is PRO.
