Overview#

Each tool is a module you turn on or off in Global Settings › Modules. A module that is off disappears from the screen and stops working everywhere in WordPress. Most of them show up where you already work: in the Media Library (list view) and in the Posts and Pages lists.

Tool Where it shows up On by default?
Image Converter Its own tab and the "Image optimization" column in the Media Library. Yes
Folder Image Converter Its own tab. No
Auto Alt Text The "APC - Alt" column and the "APC - No alt text" button in the Media Library. No
Repeated images The "APC - Repeated images" button in the Media Library. Always on
Rename Media The "APC - Rename Media" column in the Media Library. No
Regenerate Thumbnails Its own tab and the "APC - Regen. Thumb." column in the Media Library. No
Thumbnail in post types The "APC Thumb" column in the Posts and Pages lists. Yes
Broken Link Checker Its own tab. No
Remove Internal Links Its own tab. No

Good to know: the Image Converter comes on, but it converts nothing by itself until you start converting the existing images or turn on automatic conversion of new uploads.

Image Converter#

Converts the images in your Media Library to WebP or AVIF, formats much lighter than JPG and PNG. A lighter page loads faster, and speed counts for Google and for your visitors.

The Image Converter tab: format, conversion strategy and going back to the original.
The Image Converter tab: format, conversion strategy and going back to the original.
  1. 1
    Choose the format and quality

In the Image format & quality card, pick WebP or AVIF under Convert to (the card shows what your hosting supports). On the Conversion strategy bar, the Optimal value reduces the size with no visible loss and is the best choice for most sites.

  2. 2
Decide what happens to new uploads

With Convert new uploads automatically, every new image comes in already converted. Remove image metadata strips hidden data such as GPS location and camera model, without changing the colors.

  3. 3
Convert what is already on the site

Under Optimize existing images, click Start background optimization. The server converts a little at a time, with pauses, so a simple hosting plan is never overloaded, and it keeps going even with the tab closed. Optimize now does it all at once, with the tab open.

The original is never lost

Both versions of every image sit side by side on the server. Switching which one the site shows takes effect at once: in the Back to your original images card, the Restore my original images button brings back the originals and Use the lighter copies again goes back to the converted ones, as often as you like. Turning the module off or deactivating the plugin also puts the originals back on the site, and the converted copies stay stored.

Deleting the converted copies

To remove the copies for good, use Delete converted images & restore originals. Before deleting any file, the plugin puts the originals back and updates every page that points to a converted image, so no page on the site loses a picture. An image whose only version is the converted one (its original was deleted) and an image whose version you chose by hand are never touched, and the card says how many there are.

Folder Image Converter#

Some images are not in the Media Library: those in the theme folder, in a page-builder kit or in a folder you uploaded. The Folder Image Converter creates a light copy beside each one, and the site starts showing the copy at the same address. The original file is never changed.

  • In Folders to convert, use Detect folders with images or type the path and click Add folder. The Media Library does not show up here: it belongs to the Image Converter.
  • Format and quality work as in the Image Converter. With AVIF, a WebP copy is made too, so Safari also gets a light image.
  • It works on Apache or LiteSpeed hosting, the vast majority. On others, the originals keep showing as before, and nothing breaks.

Alt text#

Alt text describes the image for people who use a screen reader, and for Google. The Auto Alt Text module brings the alt into the Media Library list, so you can fill in dozens of images without opening them one by one.

The APC - Alt column in the Media list, with the Confirm button on each image.
The APC - Alt column in the Media list, with the Confirm button on each image.
  • "APC - Alt" column. Every image has its field always open. Type and click Confirm. Enter confirms and moves to the next row; Esc goes back to the saved text. A field you changed and did not confirm gets an amber border, and WordPress warns you if you try to leave the page.
  • One text for many images. Select the images and use the APC - Edit Alt Text bulk action. An empty text is refused.
  • Only the missing ones. The APC - No alt text (N) button, in the filter bar, lists only the images with no alt. The number drops right away with every alt you confirm.

PRO Writing the alt with AI

On PRO, the APC - Generate/Regenerate Alt Text bulk action writes the alt of each selected image from the image itself, in the site's language: with no alt, it creates one; with an alt, it rewrites it. A row with an unconfirmed change is skipped. In the block editor, the APC - Alt panel shows up in the settings of the Image, Cover and Media & Text blocks, and the Generate with AI button also sits below each image's Alternative Text field. When the AI cannot write it, the alt stays empty, with a notice: it never becomes a copy of the title.

Repeated images#

Over time, the same photo gets uploaded several times, in different sizes and names. That takes up space and spreads versions of the same image across the site. The APC - Repeated images (N) button, in the Media Library, shows the groups of copies. It is always available, with no module to turn on.

  • It compares by how the image looks, not by its name. The same photo is found even at another size or in another format. Now and then, 2 very similar photos land in the same group: check each group before deleting.
  • The first comparison runs on screen, in parts. You can leave the page: it picks up where it stopped. After that, new images are compared on their own.
  • Each copy shows where it is used ("Used in:", with the title and address of each page): in post and page text, featured images, Elementor, galleries, ACF image fields, widgets, theme settings, categories and the SEO social image.
  • Choose the one that stays with Keep this one (the largest comes selected) and click Delete/replace on the copy. Every use of the copy starts showing the kept image, revisions included, without changing the posts' dates. The copy is only deleted when nothing points to it anymore.

Deleting is final: the copy does not go to the trash. If a place cannot be updated safely, the copy is not deleted and the screen names that place. An image another plugin keeps only by its number may not show up in the list of uses.

Rename Media#

A descriptive file name helps image SEO. In the APC - Rename Media column, type the new name and click Rename. The plugin cleans the name (accents, spaces, capital letters), renames the image and all its sizes, updates every link on the site to the new address and never changes the posts' modified date.

  • The media item follows: the attachment page gets the new address, with a 301 redirect from the old one, and the title changes too when it was still the file name.
  • Renaming is refused when the new name clashes with another file, when the image was cropped or rotated in the WordPress editor, and while a cleanup of converted images is running.

Regenerate Thumbnails#

When you change themes or add a new image size, older images lack the sizes the theme now uses. This tool recreates those sizes, safely for converted (WebP/AVIF) and AI-generated images.

  • One image: from the APC - Regen. Thumb. column in the Media Library.
  • All of them: in the Regenerate all thumbnails card, on the module's tab.
  • Only create missing sizes makes a quick pass, only with what is missing. Delete old, unused sizes comes off, because an old size may still be linked in a post or in the page builder.

Why these 2 tools are not inside the editor: Rename Media and Regenerate Thumbnails live only in the Media Library, on purpose. With a post open in the editor, saving the post would write the images' old addresses back, and they would vanish from the page.

Thumbnail in post types#

An APC Thumb column in the Posts and Pages lists shows each post's featured image, so you can see and change it without opening the post. In Global Settings › Modules, right below the module's switch, Show on these post types: picks the lists where the column shows up (Posts and Pages come checked).

A broken link frustrates readers and wastes Google's attention. This tool looks for broken links inside your published posts and pages and lists each one for you to decide. Nothing changes on the site until you act.

The Broken Link Checker: the links it found, for you to review and act on each one.
The Broken Link Checker: the links it found, for you to review and act on each one.
  1. 1
Choose what to check and run it

Choose Posts and pages, Posts only or Pages only, and Elementor templates too to include the header, footer, popups and saved sections. Click Check broken links now.

  2. 2
    Review the list

In Links to review, each link shows the post or page it is in and the answer from the destination site. The check looks at the article text, the list of references at the end and, in Elementor, the links in text blocks, buttons, headings and images. A link may be down only for a moment: open it or click Re-test before removing it.

  3. 3
    Decide what to do

Edit URL points the link to another address; Remove link removes only the link and keeps the text; Restore puts the link back. With several selected, use Re-test selected, Remove selected or Edit in bulk, which points them all to a post or page you choose.

Useful for cleaning up old internal links before reorganizing the site or turning on the plan's link building. The tool lists the internal links (the ones pointing to your own site) inside published posts and pages, including content built with Elementor. The menu, header, footer, popups and saved sections are never touched, and links to other sites never enter the list.

Click Find internal links now, review the list and remove the ones you want, one at a time or in bulk. Only the link goes, the text stays, and any of them can come back with Restore.

Post dates do not change: removing, editing or restoring a link, in both link tools, does not touch the post's modified date. For internal links that lead to each subject's pillar, see link building in SEO and performance.
